Tyler is an active duty Marine stationed at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island as a Primary Marksmanship Instructor, teaching futures Marines the importance of how to be an effective Marksman. He's also a Crossfit Level I Trainer at Crossfit Humidity, located not too far from MCRD PI.
I met Tyler at Crossfit Humidity. He's been an excellent coach in his first year, always there to support you in and out of training.
Where were you stationed at before coming to MCRD Parris Island?
I was stationed in 52 area San Mateo, Camp Pendleton CA -I’ve deployed all over Asia and the Middle East.
So what are you doing to stay fit to fight?
Crossfit ! I want to be in overall good shape and I’ve found that this works best for me !
What was your best and worst moment in competition and or military experience?
It’s a bit of both ! I was in a pretty high level competition in Georgia...way above my fitness level. And wasn’t doing too hot. In the last workout of the event in my heat I came in 2nd on that workout which consisted of wall ball shots, muscle ups and a 800 m run for multiple rounds. Every other event I did poorly in but I knew I needed to push harder than ever, so I did.
What are your future goals (personally and or professionally?)
To be honorably discharged from the Marine Corps next July and to continue on with my passion for CrossFit and helping others achieve their fitness goals as well!
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about entering competition and or military?
POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE ! Mindset is everything. Stay positive. Even if it’s false positivity, it will help you whether it be something fitness related or military related. And never quit.
What’s your favorite quote or saying?
“Rome wasn’t built in a day”
Patience. It takes a lot of time and dedication to build what you want. Whether it be a physique, endurance or strength. It’s going to take a while to achieve your individual goals. The Romans didn’t quit so neither will I until I get to where I want to be.
