Where has the time gone? Reflecting on Field Medical Training Battalion
Where has the time gone?
So we’re here back at home with the family and I’m going through some old vhs tapes... yes vhs tapes if you’re old enough to remember them. I found the vhs from Field Medical Service School (FMSS) where we trained to be with Marines as Corpsmen.
It was early 2004 before I joined my first unit. We trained at Camp Pendleton for 8 weeks on the basic fundamentals. Field care, mass casualties, emergency medicine, weapons familiarization and those damn hikes. There are two locations for FMSS or what’s now called FMTB, Field Medical Training Battalion. Camp Pendleton and Camp Lejeune. Each corpsmen will tell you of which location was more difficult depending on where they went. Both had its pros and cons.
Anyway, I’m thankful my parents still have this video. I’m thankful I was able to get to see it again.
16 years from this experience and I’m grateful that I’m still here above ground, able to look back at how far I’ve come.
If that guy only knew where he would be and the things he’d see...
I wonder, where are these Sailors now?
